Birthday Thrifting

I realized the other day that had never shared my birthday present from Dan…he sent me away for the afternoon, sans children, with a little cash in my pocket to hit some local antique shops in Havre de Grace. It is a little town at mouth of the Susquehanna River on the Chesapeake Bay with antique and vintage shops around every corner. I cherished every moment of wandering at my own pace, lingering way too long looking at old postcards, or unfolding vintage aprons, no children to fuss over, no rush to get home to make dinner, as he promised dinner out when I returned. It was a perfect little present. And of course, I returned home with a few things.

orange polka dot canisters with wooden lids. stamped ‘west germany’. I haven’t been able to find any information about these anywhere. I’ve googled, ebay searched, no luck. So, I’ll just cherish my little two that are sitting on my counter.

  1. Happy Birthday! And what a nice present!

Those are really cute. There are some similar looking items on ebay if you search for waechtersbach and dots.

  2. What a great idea! And a very affordable present! Happy Birthday! For my sixteenth birthday my parents did the same. Gave me cash and took me shopping in the big city. Now that I live in the “big city” I’ll always stick to the thrift stores.

  3. Beaux cadeaux d’anniversaire et surtout belle journe ! Moi, j’ai 2 bols rouge pois blancs comme les tiens et je les adore. Ils sont anciens mais viennent de France, pas d’Allemagne.

  4. Time is always a wonderful birthday present!

I almost bought a whole set of dishes with the tree/leaf/flower pattern on that bowl that last time I was antiquing. It’s so cute. This is the second blog I’ve seen that pattern on, and it is making me wish I’d bought them! (And apparently my grandma used to have a whole set, and they got LOST!!)

  5. funny how what we value changes as we get older. Did we ever have a clue what a value alone time was when we were wishing for life to move on!very cool finds.

  6. What a perfect birthday, I couldn’t think of a better way to spend the day! The polka dot jars are gorgeous (I can’t resist anything with spots or stripes!). Also I think Blair over at Wise Craft just bought up a whole set of the leafy patterned dinner set – you should check it out 🙂 x

  7. way to go dan, i dont think you could have come up with a better idea! nice finds molly, and i am betting you didnt get scolded on this trip!

  8. Hi! I am new to reading your blog, but wanted to pop in and say hi and let you know I really like your pictures and writing that I have read so far. We have a LOT in common, our backgrounds are quite similiar.
