i love the way they love

the way they love

Sometimes I have to push them away. I have to tell them to give her a little space–Birdy does need some peace to eat now and then.

But other times I get to stand back and watch.

And I love the way they love their sister. The way they are itching to get her in their laps. To plant kisses on her forehead and put their fingers in the clutch of her baby fist. The high, sing-songy voices they use to talk to her. The way, at the first sign of waking noises, they go thundering up the steps and bursting into her room.

I used wonder how I'd ever manage.

But now, how could I ever manage without?

  1. Darling photo! My older kids can’t get enough of the younger two either– it’s sweet.

I found your blog in Artful Blogging. Yours was one of the standouts, in my opinion, and I’m looking forward to poking around.

  2. Oh gosh. I hope things work out as well with my three boys. My 1.5 year old is so unsure about the newborn. My husband will be going back to work in one week and I worry constantly about how I’ll manage all three of them by myself!

  3. We’re enjoying the same phenomenon here. Everyone loves the baby! As for managing with all these little people – we do what we must and find the joy in the middle of it!

  4. It is wonderful to see how they love on and smoother the little one. It is one of the blessings of having siblings. Now that our youngest is 2 I’m dying for more…just hoping for more. It is so wonderful to watch.

  5. I used to wonder that too… now I look at how the youngest look up to the others, and the older ones are patient and teach him and wait for him and look after him… and it simply fills my heart.

    My boys.
