dear baby, and other goodness

Dear Baby,

My house is clean. All the laundry is done and folded and put away. And you should know, that never happens in this house. I have had my little bag of packed toiletries sitting on the bathroom counter for so long, I'm almost out of deodorant and my chapstick is just about empty. I have made so many lists that they are stapled together on my desk. And if you don't come soon, once again, all these things will be undone…again. The house will get messy, again. The laundry will pile up, again. I'll need that pair of black yoga pants that I just packed in the hospital bag, again. The midwife is back from her spring break. My family is back in town, poised and ready to watch your sisters. All the farmers at work know your Daddy may suddenly disappear for a few days, even in the midst of the busiest time of year. Maybe you'll come out a very content baby, because you're obviously happy where you are. Or maybe, you're stubborn. Either way, I'm ready for part two to begin. Come on out. Spring is here. The sun is shining. We're ready to meet you.

Love,

me.

  1. Molly, my March baby didn’t want to make an appearance either. Born 2 weeks past my due date, during a thunder/snow storm, midwife couldn’t get there because of the snow, power went out in the hospital. Hoping yours isn’t quite as dramatic. BTW, my March child has made herself known and continues to do so….In like a lamb out like a lion. Wishing you the best in the days to come.

  2. i think that entry looks an awful lot like your entry, my friend. and i think you’re doing an outstanding job waiting for this babe – staying present in the here and now. (and let’s hope the little one never tries your patience like this again! xo.)

  3. wonderful links, molly. i’m going to keep this page up all day and go back and see each one when i have the chance.best wishes to you. this is lovely and so truly felt. i can remember…beautiful new header. made me happy just to see it!xo

  4. Hope it won’t be long before you can cuddle your little one. (In this country, midwives say that a full moon has some effect on natural childbirth – not sure when the moon is full this month, our sky has been cloudy for so long, but I hope it’s soon!)

  5. I so did the “okay, everything’s done, baby can come…now!” thing, all 5 times. Of course, there was always one thing that I remembered at the last minute, but it just reminded me – hey, it’s never *really* done…By the end, it’s all about bringing that baby out into the world – I’m feelin’ ya!

  6. loved all those links and got off on about a hundred rabbit trails…hope that baby comes soon. said a little prayer for you just now that everything goes well with labor and delivery! hang in there, champ.

  7. Dear Molly, I have been visiting you as always but remaining quiet. This most precious letter to the little person so snug in your womb is so beautiful.. such a luckylittle one to have your arms waiting. You are making me ache for a little one here! (and it’s gong to have to be a grand baby) BTW, the photos in the car from a previous post, absolute beauties you have there! Here’s to beauty #4 popping out pronto! XO

  8. My fourth baby took her own sweet time to be born. Every day, every minute, towards the end, was difficult to me! It just felt so long. But I knew that looking back, that period while I was waiting, waiting, waiting, would seem laughably short. Now she is almost 5 months old and the time has simply flown by. I can’t wait to hear the news of your little one!

  9. A friend sent me this poem last July while I was waiting for my baby to decide it was time. I thought it was helpful (and also helpful to share with all those who kept asking, “that baby’s not here yet!?”). Hopefully you like it too!

Dear Baby, here beneath my heart,I thought that you might come today; The timing seemed just right.

But the stars are outAnd the moon is highAnd sheepishly I wonder whyI try to arrange the plansOf God.

For now I knowYou will not comeUntil the One who holds eternityRustles your soft cocoonAnd whispers in tones that I will not hear,”It’s time, precious gift.””Now it’s time.”
