Mouse in the house (and winners!)

nestled

I'm going to tell you the winners of the last Show & Tell giveaway, but first I'm going to make you sit through a ridiculous amount of pictures of kittens. Well, one kitten, actually.

killer eyes, both of them.

This would be "Mouse", named by the girls. When these kittens were born, I had no intention of keeping any of them. Then we lost Rosie. So I let Emma keep a replacement.

And then, well….just look at this face? Mouse won us over. He's the chubbiest little, fur-ball, stumpy-legged, stick-straight tail of a kitten you could imagine. And my children have mauled him and loved all over him so much that he puts up with anything and has a knack for falling asleep anywhere.

Yesterday, I walked out onto the mudroom to find him flat out on the ground. I called to him. He didn't move. I picked him up, he opened one eye and closed it again. I had visions of Elizabeth squeezing the breath out of him and I was witnessing his last moments. I picked him up again, gave him a nudge. He opened his eyes, looked at me, then passed out again. His head began to loll to the side and I thought, "this is it." But no, he's fine. Apparently, he's just a sound sleeper and obviously takes nap time very seriously.

The rest of the kittens have all found perfect homes, all through the wonders of blogging. I'll tell you more about that soon.

I also owe you a wrap-up report about my grocery challenge. That is coming later today, I hope. My mothering duties started ridiculously early this morning thanks to one rumble of thunder.

Meanwhile HERE are the winners! Please send me an email (you'll find a link to it on my About page) and I'll pass your info on and get those VeggiChops to you right away! Congratulations!

looks like it's the perfect size! I love my chopper, but it doesn't
hold very much and I always have to find a place to plug it in. I like
that this one is 'person powered' – my arms could always use a work
out! 🙂

We won't
have berries for a few more weeks and then I'll be making jam. Wish I
could find a freezer jam that is more berry and less sugar.

  1. Oh, I am not a cat person, but that is one cute little kitten. Such amazing pale aqua eyes. And what a funny name, so appropriate!

  2. We had the early morning thunder this morning, too, only there were about eleventy billion huge cracks. *I* couldn’t sleep, but thankfully the baby is still young enough that he sleeps through most anything. I know, I know, that’ll change! Counting my blessings while I can.

  3. I have one of the sisters and she is wonderful! The kids just love her to death! They called her Sweetie (’cause that’s what Kelly called her) and she is really enjoying herself with our Yorkie (who all of a sudden looks like a giant). Thanks for the little addition to our family!!!

  4. ok…i was mad at first for not winning but the cute kitten pics make it all ok. god there is nothing cuter than a kitten. NOTHING i say!

  5. Adorable kitten, adorable child! And yes, i can’t wait to read about your grocery challenge… i couldn’t join you last week, but you inspired me to give it a try this week. i’m not going all the way–we’re buying fruit and dairy and little things here and there to round out meals, but i’m committed to finally defrosting the rabbit we bough 3 months ago and using up all the half full bags of rice, pasta and dried beans.

  6. Besides being darned cute, that kitten has fabulously coloured eyes! We have 4 cats in our household and I can’t imagine life without them. Oh now wait, to have the bed to ourselves? Yeah, I can imagine that part without them!

  7. i love the name mouse. love it.of course, the next cat we get will have to be orange. or maybe even a puppy. i think i am crazy.

  8. Oh Mouse is a KEEPER! I can’t wait until my daughter wakes up to show her those photos. We trawl blog land looking for puppy and kitten photos!

  9. isn’t he a cutie! I love the photo of him with his cut little tongue out.My girlfriend had a cat named ‘Mouse’ years ago. Mouse used to sleep on top of all our horses…throughout the year…year after year. She was a lovely, sweet cat….and an excellent mouser too. Now when I see the word ‘mouse’, I always think of her.
