feels like home

mudpies and rose petals
::walking to the stream bringing back mud, rocks, roses and ticks
::finding favorite spots to catch a cool breeze or spot of sun
::entertaining more in the last week than in the last two years
::uncovering old favorites and parting ways with all the extra 'stuff'
::being cut off from the world–no phone, no internet, but finally a little NPR on the kitchen radio
::making new routines, reworking old ones
rediscovering old favorites

::watching my children explore and adventure
::swinging and swinging and swinging from the giant tree
::lingering on the deck with my husband, enjoying his company
::watching the groundhogs gorge on my birdseed

a new view

::listening to a first storm rumble over the house
::staying cool tucked inside the thick walls of an old house
::watching clumsy kittens explore a new outside world
::enjoying the sound of footsteps on a set of stairs
::worrying about our missing cat

grilling everything

::grilling every meal in the absence of a working stove
::encouraging my children to wander
::feeling tired but…feeling like this is home

  1. Hi Molly, I’m new to your world ~ just followed a link from another fave blogger. Anyway I think I’ll be checking back in here often. Your words and thoughts have inspired me in my home already. I’m not moving house nor looking too, but always wondering how & where we can do this homely thing better. Softer. Happier. So thank you for the inspiration & motivation to also look at our old home with fresh eyes & wonder how we too can lead a simpler, more satisfying life.& many congratulations on finding home. x

  2. seriously, i don’t know what else to say besides welcome home. my heart is singing for you. for all of you. (ps. is the cat found?)

  3. Welcome Home Molly!!!We were traveling and unable to comment on your last post….I’m so incredibly thrilled for you, for all of you!I know this is even sweeter after such long awaited anticipation. I know you are savoring so many small things right now and I’m smiling for you just thinking about it all!!

  4. Looks like you’ve scored some tasty asparagus, as well–I never even saw the season here, as I think it came and went before the market got going.

Enjoy your new place, and I sure hope the cat turns up soon!

  5. Such sweet times, and you spoil us with pictures too! 🙂 Savor every moment- that newness is so precious. Blessings to you, and a wish for a found kitty. . .

  6. How nice! We were just talking about you at RUN today. I’m glad you’re settling into your new home. Can’t wait to visit.

  7. Thanks for sharing this post Molly, it was so whistful and romantic at the same time. So happy to hear that you’ve found home.Dy

  8. Looks and sounds like it should. Have a wonderful week and hope that little kitten came back (ours stayed out all night the other night-first time-and there was a terrible storm. I was so worried, but she was fine and home by morning).

  9. I am so happy for you!!! Ever since I discovered your wonderful world ,you have been waiting for this and it sounds like an exhale of relief and joy.Pussycats come back-they just take a little longer to find the ‘home’ vibe : )

  10. You’re so poetic! And your new home sounds so lovely and homey! Building a new home is one thing, but building a new home in an old house seems so much more romatic…

  11. Sounds like you’re breathing.

How wonderful to be enjoying the summer in your new home. Congratulations!

ps – what are those fabulous toys? Seriously want some.

  12. It’s an exciting time and a tiring one, a move. Glad that it’s beginning to feel like home for you. And once you’re kitchen is in full order – you’ll be able to handle anything. I like how you always seem to appreciate the small, sometimes seemingly insignificant things that can otherwise get overlooked in such a busy time. Not that you need more ‘stuff’, but keep an eye on my blog – I’m having 4 fun giveaways in July and 2 today. Come for a visit!

  13. It’s great to have you back Molly! I’m glad you are starting to feel at home, and thanks for all the little tidbits.(What fun toy/game is that?)

  14. yeah!! you’re in, right up to your neck by the sounds of it. Congratulations! hope you all settle in fine and enjoy the rest of the good weather while you unpack. Best of Luck Catherine

  15. I absolutely love your new front door. It looks so inviting. And those wood stairs….that’s the kind of house I dream of some day. Enjoy it!

  16. That’s such a nice home post. Making a ‘home’ with three children must be so very different from making a home with just two adults. As for the electricity and phone battles, that sounds perfectly normal. We’ve been in this house for almost a year now and are still waiting for the electricity man to come back (three phone calls of ‘oh yes of course. Next week.) and the phone company hasn’t even send someone. They just told us it’s normal that the phone and internet don’t work when it’s raining outside. Because we’re at the end of the line.I guess you just have to love the south of France.
