the final freezer bag of last year’s tomatoes going into spaghetti sauce for supper

the last of last year's

the lazy-man’s way to net butterflies

lazy man's butterfly chasing

taking a break from the overwhelming task of weeding at the new house

taking a break from the overwhelming task of weeding at the new house

how each morning begins for elizabeth…a girl-party in her crib. usually there’s one more little pair of feet in there, too.

how every morning begins for E

mastering the climb into the rocking chair and feeling pretty proud of herself

mastered: the climb into the rocking chair

mastering the reach (and dump) of the can of markers. they were on the floor about twelve seconds after this was taken.

mastered: dumping all the markers onto the floor

and lastly…you don’t have to watch these videos. Really, you don’t. It’s like sitting through someone’s home movies or slideshow from their trip to the Grand Canyon. But they crack me up, because it’s my children. And I get weak in the knees at every coo and squeal. And I melt at every chubby hand and wrinkled foot. And someday (like in six months), I’m going to look back at this and long for the days when she crawled across the floor and laid herself spread-eagle at the front door of the old apartment to tease the cats sitting on the porch hankering for a taste of our kitty food just inside….
**and for the record, I don’t know what’s more embarrassing: the scratched up, peeling paint dirty front door, the little green dresser missing its knobs, or the overflowing baskets of shirts and hats and riding boots…welcome to my world.**

  1. that video is too cute, molly! and i really think she is saying kitty. she is!and about the state of your apartment – you should see my house right now. i should be cleaning instead of reading blogs!have a great weekend, friend. your package went in the mail today.

  2. Molly, that video is so sweet! They grow up way too terribly fast. Mine are 5 and 2 now and I long for those lazy baby days… And who cares about the knob or the paint or the clothes? That’s part of being a mom – you’ve pushed those aside to spend time with your kids.

  3. I have a child I think from under the same Gooseberry bush as yours (hope that expression is used in America). He loves to tease the dog and eat the dogs food (the vet said it was very nutritional for him!) and knock the older ones pots of pens and pencil crayons over daily if not twice daily – it must be the sound they make clattering to the floor, or enjoyment of seeing mummy grovel at his feet trying to collect them all up again. I think I might leave them on the floor permenantly

  4. Cutest video. Really, just darling. What a little tease! Was she meowing and saying kitty??? Sweet. Also, I wouldn’t have noticed the paint or the knob if you hadn’t pointed them out. It’s all charming. xo

  5. And how could I NOT watch the video after that intro?

Our house is all torn-up right now. With new carpet. Chaos above (literally) clean beauty. But I hear you about it being life. I hope you guys get into your new digs and settled comfy soon.

  6. Makes me weepy to have my own. I hope it happens soon. I’m not very good at waiting.

I love the picture of her with the markers!

  7. I’m glad you’re sharing the videos. I enjoy them. I love hearing the bird sounds out there! Here it’s still teetering on winter. The window in front of me shows many bare trees and it snowed this week again. So it’s nice to hear the almost summer sounds of other people’s parts of the world!

I love your cutting room floor pictures.

  8. love seeing that sauce. my inlaws bottle their own sauce in tall beer bottles and I love getting a crate full for making pasta sugo. its the best thing about having italian inlaws.

  9. Where did you find that adorable chair? I had one almost identical when I was a baby(38 years ago). My husband and father missed it when they moved us from Austin to Longview(Texas) in late 2001. I miss that chair so much and hope it has found a home much like yours to be loved in.

    Molly
