go ahead, ask me anything

I have no pictures for this post. So instead you get to see one of the few "say cheese" pictures I’ve ever taken of my children.

The children’s department in our library has a display case that features the collections of the young library patrons. Our family got "the call" for Emma to share her Schleich collection during the month of March. It was quite eye-opening to see them all together. Dan’s mother works in a toy store and one of the perks is that my children have been getting a little family of animals in the mail or for any and every holiday since birth.

It was quite painful for the kids to have their collection on display. When Emma signed up, I don’t think she thought about what it would mean to have her whole collection taken away and locked up for a month.
Both of them sort of wandered around the house aimlessly, not exactly sure what their creative play life would look like without a handful of horses, zebras and deer. But they’re back and the reunion was sweet.

So on a completely different note and my purpose for this post–questions. Spring fever is hitting my blog and I’m doing a little work on the old sidebar, including finally tackling my "about page". I’m really horrible at this stuff–sizing myself up, describing myself in a neat little paragraph. So instead, I thought I’d put out the all-call for questions. So fire away, ask me anything. Please. I don’t care what you ask–where were you born? What color are your eyes? What’s your favorite meal? Do you color your hair?  What college did you go to? As long as its not my social security number, home address or checkbook balance, I won’t care. Give me some material folks. I’d love to have some questions to answer in my about page, because the long-winded paragraphs I just wrote are no good. And if you don’t ask me some good questions, then you’ll just have to suffer with the gibberish I just wrote–at ten at night, dinner dishes untouched, dog scratching at the door and someone in ladybug pajamas taking up my spot in the bed.

Help a girl out. Ask me anything.

**PS. thank you for all the birthday wishes for miss mary. warmed my heart.**

  1. your blog posts share so much about your girls and your crafts, what about YOU? what political party, if any, do you align yourself with? do you have a pristinely clean house or does it have the lived-in look? do you let other people’s impression of your home worry you? how would you spend an entire weekend alone with $1,000 cash and free of responsibility?

  2. That takes me back–I had a collection on display at our local library when I was a kid. Funny thing is, I can’t recall what collection (I think it was probably really my mom’s collection 🙂

Anyway, questions. I need some basic info 🙂 I sometimes get all my fav bloggers confused so please be sure to cover the basics such as: names and ages of children and other relevant family members (and pets?). Where you live. What you do for most of your day (homeschool the kids?) and your favorite crafty pasttimes. Then maybe you could spice it up with a story such as how you met your husband or why you homeschool or tell us about your favorite book when you were in elementary school. Hope that gets the gears going–sorry for the long comment.

  3. Mark has the collecting bug good and proper, but sadly his are things like sticks or old envelopes. Not really display worthy, but precious to him!

And a question (or two) – how do you feel when you can’t blog? And what motivates you to write a post?

  4. Please tell Emma we said “Thank You!” for sharing her animal collection. We saw it last week and my children enjoyed it very much. My 5yo said, “Mom, I thought *we* had a lot of animals! She really has way more!”

  5. what an amazing collection! as for the question:Why do you homeschool??What programs do you follow for teaching? What makes you “tick ” ?

  6. Would you feel comfortable sharing about faith and spirituality?

Am I remembering correctly that you are moving to a larger place this spring?

Are you doing what you imagined you would be when you were growing up?

And finally, what do you do whe you get overwhelmed?

It occurs to me that I am not sure if any of these are suitable for an About page, or perhaps are only things I am selfishly curious about. I love your blog– like a cup of coffee with a friend.

  7. Hi Molly!

I want to know where you grew up because I’m curious if we went to elementary school together.Where/how did you and Dan meet?I also am curious about the homeschooling stuff, what philosophy do you follow, curriculums, do you have a local co-op/community support system?I also like the one about an uninterrupted afternoon, maybe even without the $, what is your favorite way to spend a day?

  8. what inspired you to homeschool?Do you follow a curicc? What are your ten newest blogs you have discovered and loved? What free time do you have during yr day?Do you watch tv?tell us more about yr pottery! 🙂

  9. How do you want to be remembered? What is it that you treasure more than anything else? (and would those who know you best agree?)

What is the history behind the homestead that you occupy?

How did you and your husband meet?

  10. It looks like there are already some very inspiring questions being asked. What motivates you to craft? What I mean is, was there one person or thing that gave you the crafting bug?

  11. What about your life would you never have imagined 10 years ago?

Ten years ago, where did you imagine you would be now? Are you there? If not, are there any regrets?

What qualities would you want your children to find in their future romantic relationships?

If everyone did [x], I think it would make the world a better place.

Thanks for asking us to ask you! I might just adopt this idea for my own blog!

  12. Hi,I have a Mary, too, and she was named after my mom. Is your Mary named after someone or did you just like the name?

  13. what’s your middle name?did you have an imaginary friend?what’s your favorite movie? book?what did you eat for lunch?

  14. We just started doing this at my library too. We had a bit of trouble getting the kids to understand what we wanted at first, but now they really like it!

What is your middle name? If you could only wear one color for the rest of your life, what would it be?

  15. if you answer too many questions what will i ask you in our letters? which i am going to write – sorry about the wait – i will make it worth your while!

  16. My sons have a bunch of these little figures, mostly knights and dragons and such…but we love them all. I’ll have to remember the “animal family” idea when I have grands (which will be a looooong way into the future I hope)

  17. How do you balance caring for two younger kiddos while homeschooling the oldest? (this is one of my hurdles to homeschooling – that and my patience level, or lack thereof!)

Maybe too personal – but how did you and your husband decide whose family to live near? My parents and in-laws live far from each other as I think yours do too?

How often do you get to go out with your husband, and what is your favorite thing to do togther?

  18. Sorry I’ve been MIA but illness had taken over our home for the past month and it’s killing me. I still need to recover myself and my little one is at the tail end of his cold.

I think it’s great that your library displays kids collections from the community. That is soo cool!

What is your favorite sport or activity to do?

  19. I’d be interested to know more about the amazing farm you are living on now and more about your grandmother (did she have nine kids or was one of nine kids or something like that?)–you know, like interesting parts of your family history.

Or about the house you will be moving to.

Homeschooling or just your philosophy of learning (you were a teacher before, right?).

What your creative spaces look like and how you make room for creativity in your day-to-day life.

A categorization of your reading interests–I’m always fascinated by the books you have on your sidebar.

    Your faith.

This will be fun to read! Do you feel like you’re writing an autobiography? I’m betting that whatever you include will be very interesting to those of us reading so put as much into it as you are comfortable with and don’t be too self-conscious about it. 🙂

  20. Childhood – siblings? happy? or not?Education – Anything out of the typical?Marriage – How’d you meet, fall in love, and such…Homeschooling – educational philosophy(ies), curricula/materials used, lessons learned…Faith – please do shareTime Management – How do you homeschool, craft, write, and do all your other responsibilities?Any lesson/experience/event in particular from your life that you think others would benefit from or enjoy knowing about?

I can’t wait to learn more! When I read you’re blog, more often than not I’m thinking, “Man, she’s speaking my language!Cara

  21. I’ve been back to your blog like 8 times and since you posted this and never had the time to leave a comment (I know, I’m lame). Anyway, what I want to know is more about your farm-yet-apartment situation (since I have never heard of that), and about this new house. Are you building it? Will it be on a farm too? Etc.
