sweet reunion

Do you ever have dreams that make you wake up in a funk? Early this morning I woke up from a dream where Dan told me I should start looking for my own place to live with the girls, that I needed to move out. He was so polite and emotion-less. It was horrible. Then, in the dream, I was crying to my sister about it all and Dan walked in–"Listen," he said to my sister, "I didn’t want to be in charge of leftovers, but she made me. I’m sorry." To which I remember, in the dream, looking down at a container of whipped cream cheese that was in my hand.

Ah, yes–those early morning, weirdo dreams. But I still made Dan get in bed with me for two more minutes before he left for work, just to be sure he wasn’t leaving me over cream cheese and leftover spaghetti.

The picture above is how Sunday evening ended for our family–the girls taking turns standing on the desktop and having church. They’re actually quite good at it. "Dear Jesus, I hope you are proud of all we’re doing here today." And she makes us recite a little liturgy, too. Mary handles all the singing. And for the record, they do it with completely sincere hearts. So much so, that I almost feel uncomfortable, if I sit on the sofa and flip through a book while they have "church".

And after everyone was in bed, I had a little reunion, all alone, at my kitchen table. It was so good.

  1. oh molly! i am SO happy for you that you and our dear friend, Clay, have gotten back together. it’s so soothing, so cool, so quiet – just what a mama needs now and then. enjoy! i look forward to seeing what develops 🙂

  2. Oh, Yay, Clay! I need to have some time with my clay, too. We’ve had big talks about togetherness at our house- after watching “the wire” on DVD with a single dad so lonely he was sleeping on his son’s bed- we both looked at each other and said “Never. Not us.” I’m grateful for constancy in my husband!

  3. Anxiously awaiting more of the clay! I wanna know more about those number tiles… I had the strangest dream two nights ago that I had another baby. It. was. wonderful. I got to nurse a baby again, if only in my dream. I don’t know how to interpret it though, because I think we are supposed to be done in the baby department. Is that TMI?

  4. Oh those dreams are the worst, but nice in a wierd way to reaffirm that love for your husband. Your “church” sounds like something that would happen here, they are so funny. And i’m thrilled to see that clay, can’t wait to see what becomes of it.

  5. so funny- today I posted on my blog about funks and wanting to make some clay tiles… not quite in the same way but it must be a february thing.

  6. Okay, now mix the cream cheese into the leftover spaghetti and heat. It’s wonderful!

What kind of clay do you use? The kids started pottery today, so we painted at Amazing Glaze (the Mt. Washington one) today. We also want to go back to visit Clay Works. Interested in joining us?

  7. Yes! I hate those dreams. I wake up mad as hell for no real reason. It takes me a while to reassure myself that it didn’t happen and to stop snapping at people who did me dirty in the dream. Then the most annoying thing is when you forget it so quickly you can’t tell people what has you so riled up.

Can’t wait to see what you create. I’m still looking for the perfect use for my owl buttons.

  8. Oh my goodness! What a horrible dream. I have ones like that often too. They’re scary and I often wake up thinking my husband is leaving me …

    What are the tiles for?!

  9. oh hooray! the clay! i’m so excited to see you back at it.

(and the dream. i am familiar with that yucky pit-in-the-stomach that comes when you wake from a dream like that.)

  10. I have ridiculous dreams like that all the time. And they are so discombobulating. Even though I know my husband would never do the things I dream about — the other day I had a dream about him out on a date with a girl while we were under an air attack from a plane that looked like a manta ray, while I was supposed to be at a vocal concert and he was supposed to be in the audience — but they still make the whole rest of your day off kilter. I totally get it. Why do we do that to ourselves?

  11. Aren’t those dream horrid? My hubby is already at work when I wake and sometimes those scared feelings hold on until he walks through the door and really holds me.Strange how our minds play tricks on us.

  12. i’ve had those dreams too! i have been known to wake up fatty in the middle of the night just to make sure all is ok. i hate those.

and church…my girls like to have church too. i think it has a lot to do with a certain second grader getting ready for her first communion.

hooray for you and your clay! those kinds of reunions are the best.

  13. That dream is hilarious! (now) but I’m sure it was quite unsettling, even though it was silly–I’ve had those dreams too! With Mark telling me in the same, un-emotionless way that he’s leaving! What is that? Anyway….

Nope, I don’t think you should flip through that book during “church”. I have a good feeling that Jesus is giving them His full attention 🙂

  14. hi there, my first time over here (from flickr). nice to see you!

wow, i can relate to the dream thing. totally colors the whole day in an odd way.

can’t wait to see more of the clay…that’s definitely something i’d like to try.

  15. Oh no, the dream sounds awful. I have just woken up from horrible dreams this morning too – all about teeth, and I’m sure they’re meant to be symbolic of something, but I can’t remember what! x

  16. It’s so good to see you back with the clay! I think it may be summer before I’m back to it. I know what you mean about the lotion! My sister started me on Crabtree and Evelyn gardener’s hand cream, and it works better than anything else I’ve found. I get horrible cracked knuckles, but this stuff helps!
