tooth fairy revisited

P1010007_2
The tooth fairy paid a visit to our house this weekend–for the second time. She leaves teeny-tiny hand-written notes wrapped up in thread with a dollar tucked inside. I had to upload this picture in secret because I was worried Emma would start asking questions. With all the scrutiny I got about Santa this year, I was worried she’d be suspicious of my picture of the tooth fairy note.

Apparently I made some rookie mistakes this year at Christmas, like wrapping a gift from santa in paper I had used on other gifts. We really push how santa and his elves make all the presents so she really questioned how Santa knew how to make a "perfect box for a Breyer Horse, just like in the store". And thank goodness she hasn’t noticed the Old Navy tag on the slipper socks she’s been wearing around the house. Rookie mistake. Rookie mistake!

Emma’s tooth was pretty loose to begin with, but playing a game of wild animals and biting down on your sister’s shirt only to have it ripped out of your mouth, can sometimes move things along a little more quickly. There was lots of blood, which everyone found fascinating and to which her sister replied, "Do you have another tooth you want me to take out, Emma?"  What a girl.

This weekend I had a losing my mind, too much clutter, cleaning spree. I always start at one end of the house and work my way around–a tip my mother taught me. I made it about half way around and ran out of time…and now today, I’m out of motivation. But at least part of the house is looking very fine. I think I’ll just pretend the other three rooms are clean, too.

And did you notice a familiar name in your issue of Wondertime Magazine this month, besides miss twostraightlines‘ wonderful craft? My three or four sentences on blogging made it in the "Readers Panel" response to how you keep in touch with far-flung friends and family. I meant every word….

And for those that have been asking, I’m starting to put some brainpower into Mini-Swap III, so be watching for more details. Very soon, I hope! Grace, I may take you up on your offer…

Happy Monday!

  1. I hate to tell you but the wrapping paper was definitely a rookie mistake. We went to brown kraft paper this year for all gifts from the man in red. That way the rookie in my house doesn’t mess up. They just get stamped with a K or a T and they figured it out.

  2. Ooooo we love mini swap over here! Can’t wait! We watched Elf (with Will Ferrel)and it shows all the elves making things like etch a sketches so it made the kids think that Santa’s elves could make things like you find in the stores so we were off the hook on that one. It is a tricky thing though- to basically lie to your kid and even though I think the magic of it is really fun and special, I am not looking forward to the day they really realize it has all been a big sham!

  3. we have so much tooth fairy mythology going on over here that it’s hard to keep it all straight. our tooth fairy is a regional tooth fairy who reports in to a senior tooth fairy. so if we’re away, we have to contact our “home” tooth fairy to have her contact her local representative in whatever-place-we’re-visiting. and it goes on. and on. but it’s so much fun, isn’t it!?

gotta check out wondertime. and what’s the mini-swap? where have i been!?

  4. I love the tooth fairy. I’m a school nurse and whenever a kid comes in with a tooth that has fallen out, (everyday) I have glow in the dark plastic tooth holder necklaces to put them in:) I am with you as far as cleaning and clutter. I have a “chair mountain”. (about 5 loads of laundry waiting to be folded)Ahh

  5. 2006 my husband HAD to buy 4 different lots of ‘paper from the man’ because beady little eyes had spied him bringing home the paper each time! i would stand on the front doorstep, pointing back out at the road, “go fetch” and he’d know he’d been rumbled!!!this time gone i ordered it online and it stayed in a big brown box until we needed it!

  6. I have a nearly 14 year old, 11, 8 and 7 year olds and we still play the santa game. I made it very clear to them early on that Christmas is much more fun with santa and presents, so we all play along. The littlest one still believes and the 8 year old is in that in between state, but still likes to make preparations for Santa. As for the wrapping paper…I have to have the Santa paper and things get wrapped in it early on with the kids initials on them…just in case they get found. Then I say that I’ve had an early delivery from Santa as there are so many in our family he couldn’t possibly do it all on one night. It’s all fun.

    And mini swap! YAY!And Emma’s birds-awesome.

  7. Oh goodness! That girl is one smart cookie!

I love your little tooth fairy roll! I might have to use that one. We have a wiggly front tooth right this very moment.

  8. Oh, I dread those days with the tooth fairy and Santa. Fortunately, mine are one and three so I have a couple of years to go.

    Mini swap sounds fun!

  9. Oooh, ouch on the rookie mistakes. We’ve been getting a few questions sort of along those lines, although we didn’t make any of the same mistakes. But … I think next year we might get a few more questions so we’re going to have to amp up our preparedness. And of course, let me know what you want me to do!!!

  10. Your girl is great. How business-like can one be ?!When we were little, they made us belive that drinking a sip of coffee after loosing a tooth would stop the bleeding. Thinking of it now, it sounds like one of those last-minute, what are we to do now to stop the crying – parent thoughts.

  11. this was so great…i believe that if you lived in georgia, you would be my very best friend!and i think i would probably cut those tags out while emma is asleep! this year we didn’t put presents under the tree because our kids are 3,2 and 6 months…they can’t handle the responsibility of not unwrapping them!well, christmas morning rolls around and we tell our kids, “Santa came!” and after it is all said and done, my son asks me, “Mommy, if these are all from Santa, then where are the gifts that you and Daddy bought?” (we had been sneaking them in for a while, and he was aware of that) so we made the rookie mistake of making ALL of the presents from SANTA and none from us! hilarious!

  12. so glad there are rumblings of a mini-swap III (i so didn’t want to be that kid in class that keeps raising their hand, repeatingly asking the teacher if there was going to be another mini-swap). it would be cool if it came together! 🙂

the story of your girls made me laugh. blood and all it was a sweet story.

    congrats on the wondertime appearance!
