sharing the handmade love for the holidays

Houses_2

I’m starting to write a regular feature on the babycenter site about buying handmade for the holidays. I am going to feature two etsy shops at a time in each post–one shop with gifts for big people, and one with gifts for little people. I wrote my first post today and featured two  shops–Industrious Lily and Kinichi.

I’d love to hear who/what are some of your favorite etsy shops and sellers. (or you can even tell me about your own shop!) I think this is a great chance to get the word out to support crafters and push for a handmade vs. commercial-crazy holiday.

I’m trying to keep a link in my sidebar of my most recent posts on the momformation blog. I’d love to have you visit me over on the babycenter site. I’m feeling a bit lonely. I’m so used to your lovely comments!

  1. Adorable stuff at Kinichi. I am fairly new to the whole craft/blog world (thanks to Googling “not made in China” after the toy recalls started earlier this year).

I plan to buy all of my gifts this season from the Etsy shops this season. What an astounding bunch of enterprising women out there!

  2. oh my those little houses – i adore kinchi and now think some of those houses will make perfect gifts for quite a few people. excellent first choices to feature.

a few etsy shops i adore ::alyssaettinger.etsy.com – her knitware ceramics are amazingshelece.etsy.com – inspiring handsewn little quiltstsktsk.etsy.com – lovely soft dolls and paintings/printschinnychinchinstore.etsy.com – modern/retro clothes for wee onesjcasa.etsy.com – tooting my own horn of knitting, sewing & throwing

and by the way, your babycenter posts have been so great – i love how you are finding a new voice!xoxo

  3. Hey, thanks for your comment on Babycenter. I feel a little lonely over there too, sometimes, but I think it’s because the system takes so long to load. People get frustrated and don’t leave comments. And for what it is worth, I love what you have to say. I have used many of your tips. No joke. So keep up the good fight, ya hear? And I’ll have a shop recommendation for you in a few days.

  4. i keep meaning to pop over and visit you at babycenter, but i lost the link so now i will for sure.

etsy….i might have more to say about that next week. wink. wink.

  5. I’ll definitely check you out on BabyCenter. I love Kinchi. Hmmm… there is just so much ETSY goodness. Let’s see… Here are some of my favorites:

I’ve ordered a few things from some of these sellers and love them all! Others are on my wish list.

Can’t wait to see what all your list includes!

  6. Hey lady! Keep an eye on that mailbox of yours 😉

on Etsy… Green Leaf & Owl, Swallowfield (of course), and TheBlackApple. Can’t wait to see all the handmade goodness!

  7. I’ll go ahead and admit that I forget to check your “other” blog, so a link would be great. 🙂

My recent Etsy finds include:willarie.etsy.com (gorgeous girls’ clothes)betsywalton.etsy.com (whimsical prints)moddots.etsy.com (cute robot iron-ons)annieandolive.etsy.com (the most adorable pins and hairclips)

And then there’s always (*cough*) paulabirdy.etsy.com.

I love seeing other people’s Etsy picks since it can be a little overwhelming to find the one thing I want. Your posts are a great idea.

  8. Mmmm…I have a custom coming from Kinchi, and I’m so excited about it. Love her stuff!

The only other favorite I can think of off the top of my head is Frost Fish Cove Soaps. Wonderful, hand-made, cold-process soaps and other yummies. And one of the sweetest WAHMama’s around.

  9. Definitely Green Leaf & Owl. LOVE her stuff. It’s gorgeous.
