shop update and some ideas, please

I finally put together a major shop update as of this morning. I have the old favorites for sale– buttons and pendants–and some new items, I’m really excited about. You can find it here

And now for a little brainstorming help. I have recently been hired to do a blog for my local farmers market. It is a strong market supported by many local farms, bakers, artists. They are going to use a blog as their presence on the web and as a way to provide information about the market to the public. So, I’m the new farmers market blogger, photographer, story-writer, recipe gatherer, etc. I’m so excited about the project and full of ideas….BUT, I’m anxious to hear what kinds of things you all would like to see if you visited your local "farmers market blog"….recipes, what’s in season, how to pick the perfect eggplant, etc. etc.  So go for it. Brainstorm away. I’d love to hear you ideas!

  1. Your pieces are beautiful Molly.

I would suggest lots of photos. Nothing motivates people more than just seeing beautiful tomatoes, bread, and herbs.

    Good Luck!

  2. Wow! How cool! The new items look wonderful. I like the funky shape of the chunky stone one. neat.My 3 cents on the blog: what’s in season or will be soon, some local recipes (maybe from the farmer’s themselves?), a little bit of history on the market and then I think it’d be neat to have a little bio or history of the farms/families that the produce comes from. 😉

  3. I would love to know what’s in season/ what’s new this week. And absolutely recipes! – maybe a featured recipe for each week showcasing what’s new/in season?

  4. I agree with Angela, human interest peices on individual farmers/vendors. Brief peices outline who they are and what they farm.

Definitely recipes and the like of what you’ve written.

Maybe a section (like a WIP), that outlines what is new this week. Or challenges people to make something with a featured fruit and veggie and submit their own pics and recipes. People love to be included.

A link to the daily weather so you know if it is rainy, cold that day.

    The occasional gardening/growing tips?

    Hope that helps.

    Love YOUR blog.

    Rebecca. (new fan)

  5. Cute! I’ll have to come back to your shop with a bit more time.

About the site, yes please! Put info about what’s in season and recipes. Sometimes at the local farmer’s market I see veggies I’ve never seen before and I sometimes am too embarrassed to ask what they are and what I can do with them.

I’d also like to see information on how the produce was grown. Is it organic? Is it earth friendly? And it’d also be interesting to learn more about the different farmers. It’s very nice to know you’re supporting hard working people with your visit to the market. Makes it much more personal than going to the supermarket.

    I hope this helps!

  6. Sounds like a great idea.Photos and frequent updates would be important for me as a customer, a ‘static’ blog would turn me off. It doesn’t have to be big things, but at least something interesting once a week.

I would also want the blog to make feel that I’m ‘in the know’ about what’s in season (and available) and how to use it.

    Good luck!

  7. Hi sweetie 🙂 Congratulations for your new items in your shop 🙂 I adore the light blue pendant (3304 and others) and I love your buttons too 🙂 Where are your owls ??? I hope you’re fine ! Tons of smooches 🙂

  8. This is such a wonderful idea! I would love to see not only the recipes (which I would certainly love), but also posts on the various farmers, what their lives are like, what they work on, what they choose to eat, etc. And I think you mentioned artists and artisans as well – so the more information about who and what and how the better! Brief tutorials on how to (grow a tomato in a pot, do pottery, make a sweater…) would also be interesting. And (since so many of us here in blogland have children), some blogs about how to include children meaningfully in the farmer’s market world…What an exciting project – best wishes with it!

  9. im with the brief tutorials, little insights to how it is that people do what they do…

and for me personally, wee reminders on what to plant in your home vegie patch as the seasons change and tips from growers. (updates in the ever changing world of farming)

  10. everything looks fantastic in the shop, i wish i could buy one of each! congrats on the blog, i think it is going to be great. recipes for sure, gardening talk, makebe a bit of folk lore or tall tales every now and then? i like the weather idea too. most importantly have fun!

  11. New blog sounds amazing. All the above ideas are great. Maybe also… info about the surrounding area for people visiting the market who may not live in town like where to go for great coffee before you shop or where to go for lunch (if it’s not already at the market!), nearby playgrounds. Mundane things too like where to park and how to get there from various points. I think profiles on a shopper would be cool too – like what they do with their purchases and how shopping at the market has changed their lifestyle/eating habits. Also, profiles on area restaurants who use produce from the market.
