Show & Tell: Milkshake Band

Showandtell_updated

I have to admit, I am seriously picky about the music my children listen to, especially the children's music they listen to. In fact, I wouldn't be at all offended if you called me a music snob. So when a package arrived in the mail containing a CD and DVD from "Milkshake" I was skeptical. I was pretty sure it wouldn't meet my high standards….

Milkshake

I was wrong. I was pleasantly surprised with the music and lyrics on this CD. Let me tell you, this CD has some pretty good dance party music on it, too–tutus and eye patches optional. The songs were easy for my kids to learn, so easy that after about the second playing, "we've got a band, yeah, yeah!" was on repeat in my head. The songs talk about things kids think about–imagination, pirate ships, super heroes, baseball and birds (one of my favorite videos on the DVD.)

For Emma, it was like she'd discovered her first "cool" music. And I watched her as she carefully mimicked the dances and motions of the female lead singer.

From the interviews on the DVD, the song lyrics and the overall vibe of the CD, I get the feeling these Milkshake folks are good people.

And you know, I have an extra copy of the DVD and CD to send to one lucky family.

  1. I just discovered your blog… cool!

I’m a music snob too – it has to be pleasing to kids AND mama. They sound like a good band to check out.

  2. my #1 and #2’s friends think i’m a music snob! we have the radio on in the kitchen all day and do have some chart music and the downloads etc (lyrics scrutinised first!) but the everyday cd’s that they have free access to are from musicals (Annie and West Side Story the fabvourites), the blue man group (great for showering if your male and 10!), and the world music series that we get from the library every week. the bollywood one makes our bread rise better !?

oh dear….cool mom award i am not winning!!!

  3. I haven’t gotten to the point yet where I pic and choose what Eli is listening too, kid music is rare right now. He listens to what I listen to, for now. However, I have a group of girlfriends that absolutely RAVE about Milkshake.

I think you can become a fan on Facebook too! LOL

  4. My 6 1/2 year loves to dance and loves teaching her 3 year sister to dance. Its great to watch them try and dance together. She would love Milkshake.

  5. Count us in! I’m glad we’re not the only “weird” family that is skeptical about children’s music. Thanks for pointing us to this great group!

  6. I am so thankful I found your blog through our mutual friend, Hannah. I enjoy it so much! And my 3 and 4 year old both enjoy lots of music and dancing. This would be great for us! Thanks.

  7. We have pretty similar taste in music, I’ve discovered thanks to your side bars.

I’m pretty sure my youngest would LOVE this–he’s a music lover and is learning his way around a computer. 🙂

  8. I’m a total music snob too, this sounds great and along the lines of Laurie Berkner maybe? Check her out if you haven’t already. Thanks for these amazing giveaways!

  9. My 6 year old son is just in love with wacky music and dancing. He can imitate Bill Cosby’s moves like nobody’s business.

  10. Thanks! I’m actually taking my son to see them tomorrow here in Philly with a friend who likes them. I haven’t heard their music yet but I’m glad to hear the positive review!

  11. I’m with you on being a music snob…If I am going to have to listen to something 5000 times then I need to at least like it a tiny bit. Thanks for all the fun giveaways!

  12. This could be added to our dancing hour that we have in the evenings when dinner is about ready and we are just waiting for dad to walk through the door.

  13. I’ll toss my hat in this ring, too. Though I’m really hoping and hoping for that wonderful book. Thank you so much for this lovely, lovely series of giveaways.
